Ireland’s first National Bike Week will take place from June 14th to June 21st 2009.
The aim of bike week is to promote cycling as a healthy and fun mode of transport.
A wide range of events have been organized throughout the country to mark the occasion. These events include family cycles, workshops, cycling tours, cycling fairs and many more.
A major opening event will take place in the Phoenix Park, Dublin on Sunday June 14 to kick start the week. This event will include an attempt to break the world record for the longest parade of bicycles ever in one place (the record currently stands at 2,284).
There will be a cycle through Dublin City Centre on Wednesday June 17 by up to 4000 cyclist to mark the official ‘Bike to Work Day’
National Bike Week is supported by a dedicated website www.bikeweek.ie. Check out the website for a listing of events for the week. It promises to be an enjoyable experience for all who take part.
Bike Week is a cross-community effort and is open to all communities nationwide to get involved.
