Businesses using electric bikes

UK supermarket chain Waitrose is trialing a grocery delivery system that uses electric bikes. The electric bike tows a trailer where the groceries for delivery are stored. This is seen by the supermarket as an environmentally friendly alternative to putting extra vans on the road. It is a throw back to the past where groceries delivered by bicycle were a common occurrence. Using an electric bike however is a much more efficient than using a conventional bike as the power assist means that the cyclist can handle and perform more deliveries regardless of the weather or terrain. Of course this form of transport can be used by many different types of businesses to deliver to their customers.

It also helps to project an environmentally conscious image for the business. Given the merits for choosing an electric bike to deliver goods I think we are likely to an increase in their use by various different business types in the future.
